ABOUT RED INK RECOVERY
Red Ink Recovery offers a unique program exclusive to porn and sex related addictions. Our clinical professionals (psychologists and therapists) have created a transformative treatment process that collects the dots, connects the dots, and corrects the dots that have driven the addictions. Our approach heals the heart, restores the soul, and rebuilds the neuroplasticity of the brain. Our clients find their lives have been wildly marked by Christ, given a path for trust being rebuilt, and resourced for far greater relationships and intimacy than they have ever known before.
The Red Ink Recovery model identifies the roots of bitterness, conscious and subconscious, that generate troubling and defiling energy for the addict (Heb 12:14). By therapeutically engaging the client’s story, we can stop the unmanageable, recurring, and unwanted behaviors. Our training will equip clients with the tools to have greater relationship connections than they have ever known before. We help heal the past and empower for the future.
All of our professional teammates are experts in the field of sexual addiction. They are all trained by Dr. Patrick Carnes and certified by the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals. Dr. Carnes is known as the father and curator of the modern sexual addiction recovery movement.
WHAT IS PORN & SEX ADDICTION?
When we think of addiction, we normally think of addiction to substances like alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc. However, behaviors can also be addictive. Addiction can be defined as a compulsive need for a substance or behavior having harmful physical, social, or psychological effects.
Porn & sex addiction is characterized by undesirable compulsive behaviors that feature incongruence with personal values and interferences with normal living, causing stress on family, friends, loved ones, and possibly one’s work environment. These compulsive behaviors can include:

-
Fantasy Sex
-
Pornography Use
-
Phone Sex
-
Use of Inanimate Objects
-
Anonymous Sex
-
Conquest and Seduction
-
Group Sex
-
Relationship Addiction
-
Humiliation & Domination
-
Pain-Exchange Sex
-
Paying for Sex
-
Power Exchange Sex
-
Intrusive Sex
-
Voyeurism & Covert Intrusions
-
Exhibitionism
-
Exploitation of Trust
-
Sexual Exploitation of Children
-
Production of Pornography
-
Compulsive Sexuality with Drug Use

Sex addiction is essentially an intimacy disorder that results in cycles of avoidance, acting out, and deep shame.

Approximately 6-10 million men suffer from an addiction to pornography or other sexual addictions. 64% of pastors report struggles with pornography, masturbation, or other secret sexual behaviors. The Internet (apps, social media, etc.) has made it much easier for individuals to anonymously hook-up as well as obtain addictive sexual content including pornography and chat rooms.
WHAT IS YOUR SEXUAL ADDICTION OR COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR DRIVEN BY?
Sexual addiction is never about the addiction itself. Compulsive behavior is never about the compulsive behavior itself. We believe the main issue of sexually compulsive behavior is not the need for sex; rather, it is to control and avoid relational pain and emotional and/or spiritual wounds.
Chronic, self-defeating, and self-destructive behaviors are not driven by our rational, thinking minds; they stem from psychological forces that are outside our conscious awareness, and their roots run deep into our past.

The Apostles called them “roots of bitterness” that would spring up and defile us. These roots are things like:
-
Childhood relationship injuries
-
Repeated neglect, verbal attack, or physical abuse
-
Parental messages of anxiety or shame
-
Loss of hopes and/or disillusioned dreams
-
Experiencing exploitation of others
-
Religious control and rigidity
Many have falsely believed that anyone can become wholehearted if they only had the proper education and information, or if they just tried harder. This is based on the assumption that we would all make healthy and successful decisions and we would behave in optimal ways to reach our goals if we just knew what we should do.

However, the reality is that just knowing what to do isn’t enough. The truth is that our emotional beliefs, which drive our survival behaviors, can’t be changed by education or information alone. And the older we get the more we realize that trying harder doesn’t help either.

The brain processes pains, losses, and griefs in nuanced ways. Crisis can inflame the neuropathways that cause people to build survival instincts of fight, flight, or freeze. Wouldn’t you like to know what is driving your addictions and/or compulsive behavior?

ARE THERE ANY PRE-EVENT PREP WORKSHEETS OR VIDEOS RECOMMNEDED?
After you register, we will send you links to pre-event prep worksheets and a few videos to give context and position you to land at our venue running hard in your historical story. It is critical that these pre-work exercises be taken seriously as a tool we will use throughout the Intensive.
ARE THERE ANY REQUIRED TECHNOLOGY USE & OUTSIDE WORK LIMITATIONS DURING THE INTENSIVE?
We encourage the Intensive block to be honored with no distractions. We desire attendees take a total break from anything deemed as a potential focus-disruption. We ask that all contact with business associates, friends, pastors, therapists, spouses and children be postponed. This includes the avoidance of phone calls, emails, texts, social media or other electronic surfing for the duration of your 3 days with us. We also request that all video, TV or other entertainments be suspended as well, including while at the hotel.
Attendees should make advanced communications with all family members, work associates, or other persons who might desire contact with you. We desire that each attendee be positioned for the greatest journey toward health possible. This requires the elimination of distractions. Physical and emotional disruptions can be costly to our recovery intensive, not just for the attendee's focus, but for the entire group's experience.
If you don't think you can make such a commitment at this time, it may be to your best interest to wait until a future intensive date when you can make such a commitment.
WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE ATTENDEE'S TRAVEL, LODGING, TRANSPORTATION AND MEALS?
Travel, lodging, transportation, and meals are the responsibility of each participant.

TRAVEL
We require attendees be present for the entire workshop. The group experience is invaluable. When it is disrupted by random attendance or early exits, the rest of the group is impacted.

Attendees are required to plan an early arrival for the beginning of the intensive. Make flight plans that give ample time to arrive to our first session rested and focused. Our intensive days are long and intense. Come prepared to maximize your experience. We encourage an afternoon flight the day before our intensive begins. Your physical demeanor will not just effect your personal experience, but also the experience of everyone in your group.
We begin our Recovery Intensives on Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. (check-in) and end them on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. The Kansas City International Airport is approximately a one-hour drive from our venue.

WILL I BE CURED AFTER 3 DAYS?
Recovery Intensives are designed to jump start the process of healing and repairs done through years of sexual acting out. The brain requires about 2-3 years of sobriety, achieved through wholeness exercises, for it to rebuild neuropathways that have sabotaged your previous greatest attempts at discipline. We are excited to take the journey to recovery with you, but we do not want clients to assume they are miraculously cured after 3 days. We know that is scientifically impossible without an unusual intervention from God… which our experience shows God’s honor to a healthy recovery process that takes time and investment.
WILL THERE BE AFTER CARE PROGRAMS?
Our final sessions on Saturday will address tools, systems, and professional relationships that will predict a full recovery. We will provide opportunities for ongoing treatment and dedicated plans via online options (Zoom) that meet once a week. These treatments options are fee-based as one of our professional counselors will be facilitating them.
Attendees will build bonds with group members while at the intensive. We facilitate and encourage groups to continue in close community through texts groups and regular Zoom meet-ups. These relationships become a powerful source of support as you walk through relapse prevention and sobriety.
Also, the Red Ink Revival Leadership Podcast provides multiple episodes addressing addiction and emotional dysregulation issues with leading experts around the world. Our goal at Red Ink Revival is to provide eCourses that will support the aftercare process with the highest quality tools and education.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Your personal story details will only be explored in the parts you are comfortable and desire to offer up. No one will be required to share deeper, more intense parts of their story. However, it will be available during this time to explore and you will get as much out of the intensive as you invest into it.
